One Night in Ferris

We turned one wagon of the Wiener Riesenrad into a Superbude. Sounds crazy, right?

Here’s the story of how this wild idea came together, who was involved, and what inspired us!

Second-hand furniture, branded kimonos, old Viennese Prater books, vintage Ferris wheel postcards, a disco ball, a DIY bed, the cult movie The Third Man on repeat, and – of course – the most magical view of Vienna: welcome to the Room with a View (for real).

We’ve been in Vienna for just a year, and everyone who knows Superbude knows how much we care about our neighborhood. It didn’t take long before we became close friends with the Prater and its iconic Giant Ferris Wheel. So when they asked if we wanted to do something together for the Ferris Wheel’s 125th anniversary, we didn’t hesitate for a second. Over a beer and a pork knuckle at the Schweizer Haus, the idea of the floating Superbude was born.

A few months later, the seemingly bizarre idea had become reality. Of course, this dream hotel room was never actually bookable – instead, we decided to make it a once-in-a-lifetime experience. As part of an international competition, we raffled off not just one night in the Ferris Wheel, but an entire trip to Vienna:

• 3 nights in total – 2 at Superbude, 1 in the Ferris Wheel

• A gala dinner in the Ferris Wheel’s Gourmet Wagon

• A Balagan menu at NENI am Prater, on the Superbude rooftop

• And flights sponsored by Austrian Airlines – from anywhere in the world!

Superbude has always been about friendship, and that’s exactly what we wanted to celebrate with this project. After the long years of the pandemic, it felt especially important to bring friends back together, no matter how far apart they live, and invite them to an unforgettable weekend in Vienna.
